All finally ends

November 10, 2011

SINGAPORE: A dispute over jackpot winnings between a hawker and the Marina Bay Sands casino has been settled.

58—year—old Choo Hong Eng told Channel NewsAsia the casino has agreed to pay the entire sum of S$416,000. The casino earlier said that the machine had suffered a glitch.

In the weeks since her case came to light, Madam Choo has become a minor celebrity.

She said: "When they (members of the public) see me, they’ll ask, is there a resolution? I tell them, not to worry, it’ll come eventually. They ask, ’will you get the money’? I say, of course!"

Madam Choo’s lucky strike took place at Marina Bay Sands on October 18.

But the casino said the machine was faulty, and offered in exchange, S$50,000 in cash and a sports car worth S$258,962 which she could sell back to the casino for cash.

Madam Choo refused the offer, and hired a lawyer to fight her case.

With CCTV footage and eye—witnesses to back her claim, she gave her statement at the Casino Regulatory Authority (CRA) on November 1.

Three days later, on November 4, the casino agreed to pay.

Madam Choo, who was in Taiwan at the time, was informed by her lawyer.

She signed the acceptance letter on returning to Singapore on Wednesday, and expects to get the cheque three days after the casino receives her letter.

She said she is happy the case is settled, and will donate nearly half of her winnings to charity.

"It’s a matter of principle. I got the money by accident, so I should give back to society, help the needy with their medical expenses, and help the elderly," said Madam Choo.

In a statement, Marina Bay Sands said it "regrets any confusion", and has decided to pay the amount displayed on the slot machine, after carefully reviewing the matter.

So now everything ends with the victim winning.

Assassins Part 5

Early release

Her teacher didn’t find any of this amusing but since she’s usually such a quiet student, he lets her slide.
“John! Since you are so vocal today, let’s see you use that brain for something other than useless chatter.  Solve this problem.”
Waving his hands in defeat, John in the fourth row tries to wave the teacher onto another student.
Nelly turned towards the window and her grey eyes narrowed in a piercing gaze.  She tunes out the rest of the class’s antics.

MBS "sell fish"?

November 5, 2011
SINGAPORE: Hawker Choo Hong Eng said she gave her first statement to the Casino Regulatory Authority (CRA) on Tuesday, in her dispute with Marina Bay Sands (MBS) over her jackpot winnings.

58-year-old Madam Choo said she felt confident about her chances of winning the case, especially with the support of CCTV footage and at least four witnesses not related to her.

Madam Choo had won S$416,000 on a jackpot machine at MBS last month, but the casino said the machine had malfunctioned. It offered her a sports car worth S$258,962 and S$50,000 in cash instead. But Madam Choo refused the offer.

Her lawyer, Mr Choo Si Sen, said the casino must pay the full amount of S$416,000 within 15 days if the CRA's verdict is in her favour.

If either party is dissatisfied with the verdict, they can appeal to the Patron Dispute Committee.

Mdm Choo said: "The CRA officer asked me: 'Did you see the words CASH and CAR appear on the screen?' I said the only words were CASH BONUS. The word CAR didn't come up at all. Car is spelt C-A-R, and cash is C-A-S-H. The difference between four and three letters is obvious."

Does this mean that the casino is afraid to lose $416,000? Or is it that they want to take advantage of an old lady.Even newspaper listed all the example, and all winners are casino. This defiantly will cause the casino standard to drop. Once that is so "high-classed" now dropped to "middle-class". Will the people going there to "give" them free money come again? Or will they still have the trust there?

Life is like a string

November 4, 2011
Each and everything is just like a string that is easily cut off. Just like the fates: Clotho, the spinner, who spins the thread of life. Lachesis, the measurer, who choses the lot in life one will have and measures off how long it is to be. Atropos, she who cannot be turned, who at death with her shears cuts the thread of life. So should we actually cherish our life even for a short time.

Here's a poem from Chicken soup:
Seize the Day

Just a moment in this lifetime,

Just a tragedy ahead.

Not knowing where each turn will lead,

Within seconds we might be dead.

Live each day to the fullest,

Do not stop to wonder why.

Do everything your heart desires,

In dreams, reach for the sky.

Surprises at every stop sign,

With its share of wrong ways and dead-ends.

Statistics don't help you with the future,

They only tell you where you've been.

With so many people among us,

There are no certainties.

And all it takes is just one person,

To reroute history.

Don't waste one single moment,

How very precious that they are.

What seems a long way off,

Is really not that far.

Live your live to the fullest. Even if you fall down, just climb up. Learn from the baby which just learnt how to walk. Even you fall, you can crawl. Continue your life not end it. There are too many misfortune around you that you do not realise. But once you realise it, you will feel fortune.
